How much do we save on warm windows ?

WHAT DOES THE Uw FACTOR EXACTLY MEAN?

The heat transfer coefficient for the whole window (Uw), frame (Uf) or glass (Ug) determines how much heat "escapes" from the inside of the building to the environment through the window surface. The lower the coefficient value, the more heat remains in the house and the less heating costs.

We obtain a low parameter by replacing the windows with more airtight ones - for example PERFECTHERM Passive with the Uw = 0.78 coefficient as standard with the glazing unit Ug = 0.5 - this way it is possible to reduce energy consumption at home by up to 35%, while protecting the environment against excessive greenhouse gas emissions. Other activities aimed at thermal modernization of the building are able to reduce our energy expenditure by another 25%!

WHAT ARE THE RISK OF WINDOW LEAKAGE?

Let us assume that at the moment we have windows with the maximum permissible value of the heat transfer coefficient - Uw = 1.1 W / m2K. In a month, we lose about 33 kWh of energy just because some of the heat escapes to the outside. Taking into account the fact that the heating season lasts about six months, this gives a loss of 321 kWh! That's about the time an electric kettle uses… in three years.

With ever-increasing heating prices, 321 kWh of energy is lost during the heating season, and it is not desirable. However, if our windows show mechanical leakage, the losses can be incomparably greater!

HOW TO PREVENT HEAT LOSSES?

Choosing the right windows will significantly reduce heat loss, but that's still not all we can do. It is also worth taking care of proper assembly.
